Remote Robotics: Exploring the STEM field of Medicine

Prepare for the back to school season with our high-quality remote option that is easy to deliver. This is not just a coding course, it's an interactive class where students explore stem industry and engineer solutions to issues that are meaningful to them. Our all-new remote robotics option is an 18 week program comprised of 60 minute lesson plans that can be delivered in class while social distancing, or remotely. Administrators will find this program the perfect distance learning STEM supplement in the form of a club, “after-school”, extended learning program or even a virtual maker space!

Weekly, On-Demand Robotics “How-To” Class for Educators and Teacher Training

Teachers can watch Latino STEM staff teach each lesson from our curriculum live via Zoom, in a step-by-step tutorial of how a teacher might facilitate each unique robotics lesson. In addition, we will offer regular teacher training sessions to all facilitators, and on request.

Light-Weight Tech Requirements

To run this program effectively, you will need a reliable internet connection, and a Chromebook, Mac, or PC. You will receive access to our learning management portal where our curriculum, teacher support resources, and classroom management tools are available.

Program Cost and Requirements

Cost for this program is determined on a case-by-case basis, as LSA works to provide resources at a low cost or free of charge to under served communities with limited access to equipment, curriculum and training . Please email info@latinostem.org to get a quote. 

Program Objectives

  • This program will provide schools with a standards-based, easy-to-use, completely remote robotics curriculum that will allow teachers to bolster their science and technology offerings throughout the school year.

  • Allow your school to continue the upward momentum of STEM exploration and investigation into STEM careers and industry, despite the disruption Covid-19 has caused in student learning. 

  • To provide multiple supports for teachers who deliver our remote program. This will include regular remote group training sessions on best practices and what’s new, and we will offer individualized troubleshooting and Q&A sessions when requested.

  • To Ensure program quality is upheld by conducting regular Dimensions of Success observations to evaluate and provide feedback and teaching strategies on improving program quality.

Curriculum Content and Lessons

Lesson 1: What is a Robot?

In this lesson students will be introduced to the general theme, health care.  Students will code a simple Vex-VR robot following step-by-step instructions.  To wrap up, students will be introduced to the idea that a robot is a device used to solve a problem. 

Lesson 2: Solving problems and navigation.

Students will explore the idea that a robot solves problems, focusing on problems in the health care which can be solved using robots.  Students will code their robot to navigate around the classroom. 

Lesson 3: Square and Loops

Students will code their robot to drive in a square and learn how using an algorithm called a LOOP students can make their code more efficient.  Students will explore some uses of robots in health care.
